가정법 과거 완료는 과거 사실을 추측 또는 후회하는 표현이다.
전치사인 to 뒤에는 대명사의 목적격을 써주어야 하기에 일단 A, B 번은 지울 수 있고 D 번 역시 전치사 for가 전체적인 분위기와는 어울리지 않기에 eliminate이 가능하다.
C번과 E번 중에 E번이 가정법 과거 완료를 썼는데 후회하는 표현인 ‘우리가 바랄 수 있었던 대로’는 문맥상 어색한 표현이 된다. 고로 ‘우리가 바랬었던 대로’라는 자연스러운 의미를 가지는 C번이 답이 된다.
